Sci-Fi Prelim Task

This is all our planning for our prelim task. Our task is to create a film opening to the genre of Sci-Fi. Our opening has to include, Match on action, shot/reverse shot and 180 degree rule.We must have an establishing shot, close up shot, reaction shot, long shot, and shots of a conversation. Our film is called The Encounter. We started by brainstorming by thinking of things that relate to our genre. This gave us a basic idea of what we wanted to include in our film opening. Then we had to think of our idea, by using our mind map it gave us an idea of what props we wanted to include and what types of characters. Once we had our basic idea we could storyboard using the shots that we needed to include. Using our storyboard we could plan our shooting schedule. We could then plan our script. This made it a lot easier to get our shots quickly and efficiently because we had everything planned.

Thriller Photos & Pre Lim Task

Our task was a thriller for cinema lovers.

The three photos we took were based around the thriller. We acted as if these photos would be the promotion for our film. The three photos we took I think that they describe the film without giving away too much. They make the audience ask questions and want to know who the characters are and why they are in that position. The photo up against the fence would be the main focus as it is the most intriguing out of all the photos. We decided to do it outside so it didn't give away to much information about where the film was set, and adds a level of mystery.

Here is the plan for my prelim task. I used a website call Prezi instead of a PowerPoint presentation. We were given the genre Sci-Fi and we had to come up with the storyline. We chose a Men in Black style film where humans fight aliens instead of making a film about alien life. We had to come up with a title for our film. This took a very long time as the title is very important to the film. If the title doesn't attract people to watch it, then the film will not make very much money. We then had to create a story board, a script and a shooting schedule. All of these you can see in the Prezi presentation above. Overall I was very impressed with the plan for our film.

This is our prelim task. The Encounter.

This is what we learnt from our prelim task.
Be responsible for your props/costumes
  • Take into account weather/room availability
  • Extras can be unreliable
  • Student office may not lend you the wheelchair if not booked
  • Back up plan if star is absent
  • If footage is moved from computer, premiere will not find it
  • Keep it simple, do not over complicate
  • Diplomacy and compromise are essential team skills
  • Continuity errors
  • Change settings when importing footage

Here is my evaluation for my prelim task 'The Encounter'. I have used Prezi instead of Microsoft PowerPoint.

One Week to Live: Film Pitch.

The task we was given was to create a film idea and pitch it to the rest of the class and see if anyone would be interested in 'buying' our film. We was given the Thriller genre, for women. This was quite tricky to come up with an initial idea as most films are aimed at both genders not just one in particular.
The initial feed back we got from the class was very good, with the majority saying that they would buy our film. They liked the cast and the idea behind the film.
