AS film openings
The camera angles used are good and create a good effect. The different locations create a good mise en scene. The acting was good in some places but could of been improved in other parts. The enigma code is good for an opening sequence as it leaves you asking a lot of questions. The music is good and helps to highlight the genre, which is most probably a horror or thriller. The use of different aged actors was good as it created a good mise en scene. The lighting was good and fitting for the genre as it was dark in some places. The music and sound helps the general build up of the film and it leaves you wanting to know more. The film opening credits could of been presented in a better way as they were just simple fonts appearing and disappearing off the screen which is also slightly distracting when you are trying to focus on what is going on in the opening. There was good camera control but could of been a more variety of camera shots and angles. The editing used helped the audience to focus on what the genre was at it flashes from shot to shot and builds up. I would give this opening 45 marks as I feel most of the criteria was filled for a level 3 although the acting could of been improved to make the genre more clear to the audience and the titles could also of been more creative to make it clear to the audience what the genre was and also a larger variety of film shots could of been included.
The music used from the start even when the titles are playing gives a clear idea to the audience what the genre is. The first word is a person shouting 'run' this grabs the audiences attention straight away and builds up a good enigma code just from this one word. The editing is good, especially the cut between where the girl and running and where she wakes up in bed, it is very clear and sharp. The lighting used is fitting for the genre as it is dark in places. There is a variety of different and creative camera shots and angles used that give a good mise en scene. Also the different locations show that when the girl is running is probably a different point in time from when she is in the house. The music that is used when the girl is pouring a cup of tea is confusing and deteriorates from the genre as it is fitting for perhaps a rom-com instead of a thriller. The titles are quite boring and the typography used is plain, this doesn't give the audience any idea of the genre which is usually what the titles are used for. I would give this film a level four, because of the good and variety of camera angles that are used. The footage used and the plot was fit for the genre, and didn't give to much away for an opening sequence. I would give this 48 marks which just fits the level four criteria. This is because they could of gained more marks using editing to add different transitions to fit the genre, such as flashing from image to image. They also could of gained more marks by using different titles that were more interesting and fitted the genre more.
